The first REAL week…
October 1, 2006
The “first” week of school is over. I have a good idea of what I’m up against.
The thing I love about the first week of school is that its ABSOLUT-ly pointless, except for encouraging kids to drink before they actually have to start putting in work. Our school started on wednesday the 27th. We went to school for 3 days and then its the weekend. Some look at this as good and bad. From a lot of students standpoint, ”WOW!” this is great. With only 3 days, it makes the transition back to school a little easier and you know you’re not going to have any homework. Teachers think its a vacation for them too.
Educationally, whats the point. I have a bad back from 2 car accidents and the first week reminds me how much of a “mission impossible” it is to sit still and stay focused. It seems like im either shifting my weight, putting my legs up and down, or cracking something for 1 hour straight. This is torture in itself, so to cut out 3 pointless days would be great. I’m sure the person behind me thinks I need adderall and is making random jokes comparing me to Tourettes Guy. Wouldn’t it make more sense just to start the following monday and actually TEACH? I mean really, if a teacher NEEDS to read and explain you a syllabus, should you really be in college? Does it really take 3 days to explain? This is just something I will never get… actually…
I’ve came to a conclusion what the real reasoning behind the first week is:
Wear all your new clothes and look cool. I think I accomplished that. So my first week was a sucess.
